Broadband defines the speed that data can be transmitted over a network.
It is a shortening of the term 'broad bandwidth' and bandwidth denotes the amount of data that can be carried. For example, a fire hose has greater (or broader) bandwidth than a garden hose. It can deliver more water, faster. Broadband is used to describe data transmission systems that are faster than a dial-up internet connection using a modem.
Broadband comes in various flavors such as ADSL, Wireless and Satellite Systems. Broadband internet access is now becoming the Australian internet standard, and over the next couple of years dial-up access will become yet another thing of the past.
FlexiNet now offers Secure Wireless Broadband which operates entirely free of telephone lines for optimum service and reliability.
